A: When did you realize if any changes were going to take place in your marriage the changes start with you? Upon repeated hitting the wall with our failed overt and covert efforts to change each other. Subsequently, we tried to negotiate the changes we wanted to see in other. Contracting for the changes we desired in each other worked as long as we each kept our end of the deal. Whenever any one of us defaulted, the other felt justified to renege also. Then we began learning of God love—that is unconditional by nature! He loves us an independent, sovereign act of His will. We cannot stop it, prevent it, or change this. We have contributed nothing to it and can take nothing away from it! We discovered that this is God's aim in us! That we would also love unconditionally--independent of other's permission or approval, but rather as a sovereign act of our will is godly! This kind of love is perfected in us as we overcome conditions or objection that challenge unconditional love. In no other relationship was this challenge more apparent than in our marriage.
